In 2014 we were approached by Seulsoleil lighting design agency with a question:

Of course, we said yes and went to the ring road around Ljubljana and took hours of videos of the highway. Then we extracted thousands of images of various vehicles from these videos.

We fed these images into a self-learning algorithm which used them to learn what is it supposed to track.

Once we got the tracking working and were receiving locations and velocities of each vehicle on the road, we started working on the visuals.

The visual effect is based on gently undulating blobs, which start to become livelier when the density of the traffic increases. The blobs are orange on the south side and magenta on the north.
